Pendulum Slip Testing – Pathways and Pavements

slip testing to a pavement

We carry out pendulum slip testing to pathways and pavements throughout The United Kingdom. When it comes to ensuring safe walking surfaces, slip resistance testing is a critical factor. Whether it’s a pavement in a city centre, or a pathway in a school, the surfaces we walk on should minimise the risk of slips and falls. One effective method for assessing this safety is through pendulum slip testing carried out by a UKAS accredited company. It is important to use a UKAS accredited company for your slip resistance testing requirements in order to determine accurate and reliable test results.

What is Pendulum Slip Testing for Pavements and Walkways?

Pendulum slip testing is a method used to evaluate the slip resistance of various surfaces, including pavements and pathways. This test mimics the action of a heel striking the ground, providing a realistic measure of how likely someone is to slip.

The process involves a swinging arm (the pendulum) with a calibrated rubber slider at its end. The pendulum is released from a specific height and swings down to make contact with the surface being tested. The distance it travels after contact indicates the level of slip resistance. The results are measured using a standardised scale known as “the pendulum test value or PTV”, allowing for consistent comparisons across different surfaces.
